Songs About Everything

Written and Sung by John Primm

Jonathan Livingston Seagull - The Whole Book in Seven Minutes

The title says it all.  I liked the book and so I condensed it into a song.  A really long song.................

The Neil Diamond album of the music he wrote for the movie version has some really good stuff.

Don't know why you never hear it on the radio.

Back

"Who is that circling in the sky?

Just a tiny speck way up so high?

Reaching for perfection in his flight?

Diving like a falcon through the night?"

Jonathan Livingston Seagull

An outcast from the flock where he was born

He only sought perfection and was scorned.

"Jonathan stand to the center for shame.

You've violated the dignity of our name."

He only sought to learn how he could fly

Be free from limitations in the sky.

A higher purpose for their life he found

But not one gull would even turn around.

He learned so well one day to his surprise

Two silver gulls flew with him thru the skies.

They stayed with Jon an inch from the tip of his wings

And Jon was silenced by this wondrous thing.

To a place unknown to most gulls they flew

Where Jonathan learned more than he ever knew.

The Great Gull took and interest in his speed

And soon taught Jon all he'd ever need.

Jonathan learned the trick to perfect speed.

His eyes were opened to the Great Gull's creed.

To know that you have already arrived

Your nature true compared to space is wide!

So Jon soon became a teacher in his flock.

He convinced the outcast gulls they're not a sorry lot.

You can be perfect if you really try.

You can all be perfect in the way you fly!

Jonathan became a real king

The day he healed a poor gull's broken wing.

And soon great numbers listened to his voice

And saw that life offered them a choice.

As Jon grew brighter, brighter by the day

He know he'd have to be about his way.

He left young Fletcher gull to lead the rest.

He like Jon, discovered the Great Gull's quest.

Jonathan shimmered like a sparkling light

Telling Fletcher to teach the flock of flight.

Keep working on love was the Great Gull's last request.

So Jon had become an example for the rest.

(instrumental)

"Fletcher gull, the flock is in your hands.

You can make them all fly above the sands."

"But I'm and ordinary gull, Jon, I'm not like you.

Jon you're special, but what can I do?"

"The son of the Great Gull, Fletcher?  I am not.

There is nothing special that I have got.

You don't need me, just find yourself and see

That perfect flight will truly set you free!"
