Songs About Everything
Written and Sung by John Primm
Outside
And here's another one word title for a song about that guitar lesson lady.
I'm not sure what was going with us when I wrote this. We never had any
problems until after we were married, and then I didn't write any more songs
about her. This song is about being honest - being yourself on the outside.
Interesting when I think about this now, as it was dishonesty that broke us up.
When someone's eyes are in your glance
A word need not be said by chance.
You know no words could ever say
What you feel that day.
For when one says what you've wished to say
They said it to you anyway.
So why pretend to play it cool?
You'd only play the fool.
For you can only be yourself
Just take your feelings off the shelf.
You only hide your foolish pride
If you are not yourself outside.
You only owe truth to your mind
For any falseness found in time
Will give you sense and peace to rest.
I know honesty is best.
Cause being false is nothing less
Than hiding one's own foolishness.
The false illusions that we make!
I hope I'm not too late.
For you can only be yourself
Just take your feelings off the shelf.
You only hide your foolish pride
If you are not yourself outside.
The one you love deserves the truth
Just be concerned, don't be aloof.
Always tell her what you mean.
Don't play games, don't be so mean.
For her heart is fragile, it can break.
If you don't care your mistake
will break your heart too in the end.
When you're in love, be a friend.
For you can only be yourself
Just take your feelings off the shelf.
You only hide your foolish pride
If you are not yourself outside.
